Sample Methods-Section Paragraph for AI-Assisted Manuscripts
A drop-in paragraph researchers can adapt for the methods section of any AI-assisted manuscript submission.
Most journal AI disclosure boxes ask whether AI was used. The methods section is where the manuscript actually demonstrates how. Reviewers consistently respond well to language structured along these lines:
"AI-assisted writing was used for sentence-level fluency, structural feedback, and methodological reasoning checks. The conceptual framework, analytical decisions, and conclusions reflect the authors' independent judgment. A contemporaneous record of all AI consultations, the authors' adoption status for each suggestion, and a tamper-evident hash chain of the drafting session is retained per RedInkAI Cognitive Audit Report ID [redacted]; the report is available to the editorial office on request."
Why this structure works: it names the assistance type, asserts human ownership of substantive decisions, and gives the editorial office a concrete artifact to verify if questions arise.
Adapt the language to your discipline and the journal's specific disclosure policy. The attestation ID can be omitted if the manuscript predates the use of any verifiable record system.
